Chocolate doesn't make me sick anymore

That's right - I'm feeling great! I've been cooking and sewing up a storm with the bare minimum amount of cleaning thrown in for good measure. I'm not quite back to normal though. Chocolate doesn't make me sick anymore, but I'm not enjoying it that much yet. So I've been trying a couple of pieces of chocolate each day to make sure that I don't miss a day of my old chocolate self (my husband thinks I'm an absolute nutbag!)

And I've managed to sew up a couple of new quilt designs that I've been dying to try out for a while using this gorgeous pile of fabric. I had forgotton how good it felt to sew until I started again, and then I just couldn't stop. I'm up to the hand quilting stage on one of them. Its only baby size so I should finish before I get sick of all the hand quilting.

As you know I love hand quilting with perle cotton no. 8, its nice and chunky and rustic. This is my new thimble - lovely and comfortable. I still like my old metal one, but this one never falls off. I just realised that this is only my second ever thimble. I used my metal one for over 2 years and never lost it - I don't know how that happened! And the needle I use for quilting is a chenille, size 24 (the brand I use is Scarlet Today).

I always baste my quilts with curved pins, and unlike my thimble I'm constantly losing these. I don't know where they go, but I have often have to top up my supply.

And for those of you who are interested in the bubbalicious, well here it is, busting out.

Princess Mary and I like to be pregnant at the same time, but I'm not impressed that my bump is bigger than hers and she's 5 months along with twins. What's going on there???

  5. OH YAY! The little bambino is looking good! And so are you - not an ounce of fat on you :) I think Princess Mary is able to have her pictures air brushed - I'm sure if you saw her in jeans, she would be popping out too! Wonderful news about the chocolate like coming back - I bet it will return in full form once this baby makes her/his appearance ;)

Thanks for the peek at your quilts - nice to see you creating again. Enjoy the day!

  6. So glad you're feeling well and back to sewing!

Can you give us a tutorial on machine vs. hand quilting, how you decide what to do, and whether you can inter-mingle the two on the same quilt?

    Thanks!

  10. Aren't bumps just so delicious:) Hey, I'd love to know if you use a hoop when you hand quilt? I know it really comes down to a matter of personal taste and all but your stitches look fab and I'm curious. I haven't been able to cope with a thimble and just put up with needle pricks (tough ol' skin maybe). Like the look of the pearle thread. Might give that a go. Ciao

  12. So glad you are feeling better! and thanks for all the info. I was always told I needed a tiny weeny needle for quilting... a "12" it says on my pack and I am having huge trouble getting that tiny needle through three layers! Yours looks a lot bigger! but of course your quilting thread is bigger too... Alltogether looks great and much easier. I am thinking of using dmc embroidery yarn for your 'There's a square in there' quilt as I can't find cotton perle anywhere..I will have to look for different needles too..

On Princess Mary.. That is definitely NOT 5 months with twins in the picture. If pregnant at all (not the 5 months mark you understand), the clever thing is that the sash is right under the breasts, giving the impression of a waist (be it a high waist) and then the material falls in many folds, possibly hiding quite a tummy!. Still 5 months I don't believe...

Your tum looks lovely. Just like it should be and why should you hide it?

  15. Yay for the baby bump - can't wait to see it in person :) Also very glad you are getting back to your old self .... life is not fun if you can't eat chocolate (and quilt of course). I keep stitching and unpicking the hand quilting that I am doing because it is either uneven or wonky or not going through all layers properly - yours looks so great XO

  17. Still praying for your little one. Good to see that healthy bump!! Loving your pink thimble!!!
I have gone to using a leather Nimble Thimble since I have bad form and use the side of my finger. Might be worth better form to have such a cute, cheerful one.

    Blessings,

    KT

  18. Why if that isn't the cutest LITTLE baby bump ever!!! I am so glad that you aren't getting sick anymore, hopefully your love for the chocolate will fully return one day soon. The hand quilting is looking gorgeous...the deep purple sets such a beautiful contrast to the fabric colors.

  24. It's okay that you are losing pins, they lose their sharpness after times anyway.

I think that is a very cute bump on top of some long, lean legs. Work what you got!
