The fabric: Saffron Craig's gorgeous organic Banksia Bloom collection. Kookaburras are my favourite bird and I love what Saffron has done with this range, the colours, the designs... all of it.
As for the quilt design: I want to keep it simple, and I thought I might give chevron a go, but you know me, I can't just leave it alone. I've had a play in my EQ6 program, coming up with some stack and slash designs that are a bit off kilter (I wouldn't want to waste any of this fabric). These diagrams will give you a rough idea. The finished quilt will measure about 60" x 76" - a nice size to throw over the couch (and me when the weather cools down.)
1. Fat off kilter.
2. Skinny off kilter
3. Fat really off kilter
4. Skinny really off kilter
There's one I'm leaning towards. Do you have a favourite?
I like the first 2! Love your fabric choices!
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to the the 'fat off kilter' design (though the 'fat *really* off kilter' could be fun, too). looking forward to seeing the progress shots.
ReplyDeleteI like the fat off kilter. You definitely want to see as much of the print as you can, the fabrics are awesome!
ReplyDelete#1 or #3 because it will showcase the prints better. You want to be able to see those beauties! Looking forward to the finished product!
ReplyDeleteeither of the fat ones. I think you need to have the larger pieces of that gorgeous fabric.
ReplyDelete#3 is my fav. Can't explain why.
ReplyDeleteKate, I tried really hard not to see what anyone else said. Touch typing to the rescue! I definitely like #3 best, guess because #1 is so little of-kilter that it look slike you didn't mean to, the others don't show enough of the colored fabric.
ReplyDeleteGreat design! My personal favourite is the first fat off kilter! God luck deciding on which one to do!
ReplyDeleteNumber three! Can't wait to see the results!
ReplyDeleteI really like number 3 :)
ReplyDeleteNumber 1! It has to be fat so you'll get plenty of Saffron's wonderful designs in there.
ReplyDeleteIt's Fat Off Kilter for me! Very cool idea!
ReplyDelete#3...really fat off kilter. Looks very random and non-predictably wonky...
ReplyDelete#2 for me i think
ReplyDeleteI like the first 2 and prefer skinny off kilter. Love the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI really like #2 best, but if you're wanting to show off as much of the fabric as possible, I'd go for #1!
ReplyDeleteNr. 1 and Nr. 3. Nr. 3 more than Nr. 1.
ReplyDelete1. Fat off kilter, gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI'll say really fat off kilter otherwise, it's competing with the Banksia chevron. Love this fabric line!
ReplyDeleteI like all of them, but #4 best!
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of Number one! Thanks for the blog mention Kate. Can I say I am excited to see your design? X
ReplyDeleteI think the first one will match those fabrics the best! Looking forward seeing the result:)
ReplyDeleteYes, I stand corrected. Go for number 3. PS. I'm such a big fan!
ReplyDeleteIt's #3 for me too! With #1 a close second.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt will look fabulous - can't wait to see how it ends up.
I prefer the fat off kilter
ReplyDeleteI really love the skinny, really off kilter.
ReplyDeleteI like the first two, with #1 being my favorite! What a neat idea!!
ReplyDeleteNo. 2 skinny off kilter for me. Great blues.
ReplyDeleteWhat about skinny moving to fat? Ombre meets chevron meets off kilter...
ReplyDeleteHey that's a great idea!
DeleteI love that fabric! I think #1 will show off the fabric the best.
ReplyDeleteI love #1. I love wonky but not too much!
ReplyDeleteNumber 3 is my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteI like really fat off kilter the best :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Kate!! Cool quilt idea. I have been reading backwards so I saw your fat off kilter--really cute in that fabric. I am so in love with Saffron's fabric and want some of this line so much--but I kind of put myself on a "sew with my stash" program this year so I don't know if that is going to happen. Anyway, I like the comment above about going from skinny to fat. Hope things are going well with you and your family. Hugs from California.

I *love* #1 and #3!! This is the first time I've seen an "off kilter" chevron pattern and I love it!! Extremely attractive! Do you sell these patterns? I would love to make one of these!!

I am a fan of chevron. Usually the chevron designs I see are a different color than blue, often black, I like the blue though. I definitely like the skinny chevron designs. I would choose the skinny off kilter design but my second choice would definitely be the skinny really off kilter design.
